Haunted Mansion Holiday: 14 Fun Facts You May Not Know

Haunted Mansion Holiday:
14 Frightfully Fun and Festive Facts to Share with Your Friends

It's hard to believe that this is the 14th year of Haunted Mansion Holiday, where Jack Skellington has visited the 999 Happy Haunts who dwell in the Haunted Mansion. Disney Parks Imagineers have perfected the festive blend of 'Scary' and 'Merry' transforming this beloved Disneyland attraction. Each year, Jack dresses up as “Sandy Claws” as he and his ghost dog Zero bring ghoulish delights from Halloween Town to visit Disneyland Park. You don't want to miss out on this unique holiday treat sure to delight your family and park goers of all ages.

1. Holiday Makeover – This frightfully awesome attraction has the longest holiday makeover of all. It doesn't go down once Halloween is over, since the theme is "A Nightmare Before Christmas" it stays up for the entire holiday season, this year until January 6, 2015. That is something to scream about!

2. Deck the Halls – Each season, thousands of feet of “Black Gnarly” garland is draped and hung inside and outside Haunted Mansion Holiday. Jack’s faithful dog Zero gathered more than 200 bones to use as décor, garland and presents. Now that's a good example of man's best friend!

3. The Eerie Exterior – More than 400 flickering candles create a ghostly glow on the façade of the Haunted Mansion. Each night, more than 100 jack-o-lanterns shine their ghoulish light.

4. Home Creepy Home - Creepy cobwebs are artistically kept (not swept!) year-round to make Jack Skellington and the 999 Happy Haunts feel right at home. We can't figure out if this is more strange or just pure genius. No dusting required!

5. “Come Out to Socialize” - More than two dozen additional animated figures “materialize” inside the mansion whenever Jack brings his Haunted Mansion Holiday around. From man-eating wreaths to vampire teddy bears, they wait all year to join in the holiday spirit.

6. The Haunted Elevator – Jack Skellington and his ghost dog Zero appear in a fully animated sequence on the ceiling of the “stretching” room, which transports guests into the depths of the mansion.

7. The Portrait Gallery – Ghost dog Zero makes a surprise appearance among the spooky, transforming portraits in the gallery corridor. Look quickly down the hallway or you may just miss him.

8. The Graveyard – The graveyard inside Haunted Mansion Holiday is covered with nearly 7,500 square feet of snow. More than 20 gallons of UV (ultra-violet) paint is used to enhance the snow’s eerie glow. Nearly 1,000 tiny, orange lights decorate the trees.

9. Graveyard Ice Angels – The iconic Graveyard Ice Angels are designed with a jagged, ice-carved look. Their ethereal wings and snow-glow colors shine with a more ghoulish luster than ever this year.

10. Seasonal Séance Room - Madame Leota’s “13 Days of Christmas” are featured in 13 spinning fortune cards that tell of the Christmas gifts which, as she proclaims, “My ghoul love gave to me…”
Kim Irvine, daughter of the original Madame Leota – For this seasonal attraction, Imagineer Kim Irvine gives a spirited performance as the Haunted Mansion’s favorite psychic, floating inside the Haunted Mansion’s Crystal Ball in the Séance Room. Her mother Leota Toombs, Disney Legend and long-time Imagineer, first gave life to the floating head.

11. Supernatural Sweets – Every year, a new ghoulish concept for the Haunted Mansion Holiday gingerbread house is created for the celebration scene in the mansion’s Grand Hall. This strange and wonderful treat is almost always “supernatural.”

12. Haunting Gingerbread Smells - The haunting scent of tasty gingerbread wafts throughout the Grand Hall, tempting Happy Haunts and guests alike. If you've ever smelled it, you know exactly what we are talking about. It delights the senses and makes you want to eat a gingerbread cookie!

13. Haunted Mansion Gingerbread House - One of Jack’s holiday traditions is leaving a special treat for the ghosts who dance around the Haunted Mansion’s Grand Hall. The annual centerpiece for this “waltz of the weird” is always a huge, creepy gingerbread creation. Jack delivers new and thrilling surprises every year. A team of five pastry chefs created this year’s Gingerbread Mansion. Three of them have been part of the Haunted Mansion Gingerbread House team since the annual holiday transformation began 13 years ago. The Ghost Host of Haunted Mansion Holiday always says, “even a gingerbread house can be scary,” and this year’s design definitely lives up to the “scary” definition. Of course, the Haunted Mansion Holiday gingerbread house adds a little whimsy with a hapless gingerbread zombie trapped inside – and those frightening spikes are very sharp, red-and-white candy canes. The gingerbread house also will feature opening and closing doors and special lights.

14. ‘Hurry Back!’ – New for 2014, a more “animated” Sally bids farewell to “Sandy Claws” Jack Skellington as he, and Haunted Mansion Holiday guests, depart from the Mansion. While you ride on the last escalator as you are exiting the ride, make sure to listen for Sally and watch Zero leading the reindeer and sleigh. Your family will definitely want to "Hurry Back" to ride this beloved holiday attraction!

Cinderella Official Trailer and Movie Poster Reveals First Look

"CINDERELLA" OFFICIAL TRAILER
REVEALS FIRST LOOK AT THE LIVE-ACTION FILM
FROM WALT DISNEY STUDIOS.

One of Disney's most popular Princesses whose life is the ultimate fairy tale comes to life next Spring in Cinderella. So grab your glass slippers and leave your evil step mother at home. Remember, if you keep on believing the dreams that you wish will come true.

CINDERELLA opens in theaters March 13, 2015.
A live-action feature inspired by the classic fairy tale, “Cinderella” brings to life the timeless images from Disney’s 1950 animated masterpiece as fully-realized characters in a visually-dazzling spectacle for a whole new generation.

The movie poster above, featuring Lily James as Cinderella, was photographed by Annie Leibovitz exclusively for the film’s campaign. Additional photos by Annie Leibovitz featuring the cast from the film can be seen in the costume feature of Vogue magazine’s December issue, on stands now.

From Walt Disney Studios:
The story of “Cinderella” follows the fortunes of young Ella (Lily James) whose merchant father remarries following the death of her mother. Eager to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and her daughters Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drisella (Sophie McShera) into the family home. But, when Ella’s father unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family. Finally relegated to nothing more than a servant girl covered in ashes, and spitefully renamed Cinderella, Ella could easily begin to lose hope. Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella is determined to honor her mother’s dying words and to “have courage and be kind.” She will not give in to despair nor despise those who mistreat her. And then there is the dashing stranger she meets in the woods. Unaware that he is really a prince, not merely an apprentice at the Palace, Ella finally feels she has met a kindred soul. It appears her fortunes may be about to change when the Palace sends out an open invitation for all maidens to attend a ball, raising Ella’s hopes of once again encountering the charming Kit (Richard Madden). Alas, her stepmother forbids her to attend and callously rips apart her dress. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand, and a kindly beggar woman (Helena Bonham Carter) steps forward and, armed with a pumpkin and a few mice, changes Cinderella’s life forever.

Directed by Academy Award® nominee Kenneth Branagh (“Thor,” “Hamlet”)
Starring Lily James (“Downton Abbey”),
Richard Madden (“Game of Thrones”)

5 Reasons Your Child Will Love Petz Beach for Nintendo 3DS

We recently had the chance to try out a new Nintendo 3DS game called Petz Beach by Ubisoft, which just so happened to be a good fit for Jessica's 7 year old daughter, Kaia.

She loves animals. She loves gaming. It's a no brainer.

We're always looking for new ways to keep our kids busy while traveling to our next Disney Vacation. We load up our movies, kid apps on the mobile devices, charge up the Nintendo 3DS, and pack up the games for a journey filled with happy kids and happy parents! Sound familiar? It's great to find age appropriate games to help pass the time, Petz Beach for the Nintendo 3DS is just that. (Headphones and witch fingers, not included.)

Here's our top 5 reasons your child (& you) will love Petz Beach:
(Hint: It's the same reasons our child loved it.)

1.) Animals Galore - There are more than 50 different types of animals in the game from dogs and cats, to dolphins and whales. This was a real highlight for our nature girl!

2.) It's An Adventure - They can embark on the ultimate adventure in Petz Beach, from caring for a variety of animals, completing quests, expanding their villages, and connecting with other Petz owners. Because the environment in game changes with the seasons, the adventure lasts all year long!

3.) Learning Made Fun - This is one that us parents can feel good about! Through its partnership with Encyclopedia Britannica, Petz Beach incorporates learning along the way. As kids care for their pets and complete missions, they’ll learn facts about animals, plants and insects. Anytime that education is included in their gaming experience, it's a bonus.

4.) The Game Expands As They Play - As players explore the town and meet new neighbors with their pets, the game expands and grows. Helping new friends will expand the village as the game progresses.

5.) Pet Simulation - Even though we already have a dog, Kaia is always asking to get another pet. With this game she can get the feeling like she has many different pets that she gets to choose, then name, and spend time with all with no mess involved. Hopefully this will keep her asking for a puppy for Christmas at bay. Wish us luck!

This game is a hit in our house. If your child is a Petz fan, you may also want to check out the new Petz Countryside, allowing them to enjoy the same fun gameplay in a whole new environment! Plus both games are rated "E" for everyone, so there's no need to worry about who can play these family friendly games.

The holiday season is upon us, sending parents (us included) everywhere into a shopping frenzy. (Seriously guys, it's already mid-November) Shopping online can be a helpful shortcut. You can purchase your Petz Beach or Petz Countryside here. We think these are both good gift ideas for the gamer in your family. Easy peasy.

Disney Magic of Healthy Living and #DisneyTryIt - Sharing Healthier Options For Families

Sometimes one of the hardest things about getting our kids ready in the mornings is packing their lunches. Trying to find a balance between something healthy and something that they are actually going to eat is a challenge for all Moms and Dads. Are you with us?

We know the key is to find snacks that appeal to both our children AND parents. We could put all of the healthy snacks in the world in our kid's lunch boxes, but if they don't eat them, then there is no point. Disney wants to help with better-for-you snacks that give you more options. Here are some examples for treats that you can feel good about giving to your kids. And they will feel good about seeing some of their favorite Disney and Marvel characters inside of their lunch boxes. Look for these fun snacks at your local grocery store! Not gonna lie, we love buying juice boxes with Mickey Mouse on them, it makes us feel like we are at a Disney Park. True Confessions of a Disney Mom!

The Mickey Check is a tool of Disney Magic of Healthy Living. The Mickey Check makes it easier to identify nutritious choices that address family needs. Foods  featuring the Mickey Check available in stores, online, and on vacation at various locations throughout Walt Disney World® and Disneyland® Resorts meet these nutrition guidelines. So whether you're on Vacation at a Disney Park or just shopping at your local market, keep an eye out for the Mickey Check as it appears on more foods and recipes.

Have you heard of the Disney TRYit Initiative? It inspires kids to try new foods, fun moves, and simple ways to be their best! It's an online destination for kids and parents, a place to get recipes, activities, watch videos of Disney Channel Stars and get inspiring printables for your family!

Toy Story 4 Announced by Disney Pixar for June 2017 Release

Disney Pixar announces "Toy Story 4" movie to be released in June 2017.

Buzz, Woody, and the rest of the gang are coming back to the big screen in June 2017 for another in the iconic Disney/Pixar series "Toy Story."

Director John Lasseter works with members of his story team on Disney•Pixar's "Toy Story 4," a new chapter in the lives of Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the "Toy Story" gang. The film is slated for release on June 16, 2017. (Photo by Deborah Coleman / Pixar)

Read this EPIC Announcement straight from Disney:
Nearly two decades after Pixar Animation Studios created the world’s first computer-animated feature film with “Toy Story,” it revealed plans for Disney•Pixar’s “Toy Story 4,” an adventure that returns audiences to the world of the studio’s signature characters.

John Lasseter, director of the original “Toy Story” and “Toy Story 2,” will direct the film, which opens a new chapter in the lives of Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the “Toy Story” gang. The story was dreamt up by Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter and Lee Unkrich, the storytellers who have been the driving force behind all three “Toy Story” films.

“We love these characters so much; they are like family to us,” said Lasseter. “We don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what’s gone before. ‘Toy Story 3’ ended Woody and Buzz’s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another ‘Toy Story’ movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie—and I wanted to direct it myself.”

Writing team Rashida Jones and Will McCormack (“Celeste and Jesse Forever”) joined the project, and Pixar veteran Galyn Susman (ABC’s “Toy Story OF TERROR!” and “Toy Story that Time Forgot”) is producing.

The film is slated for release on June 16, 2017.

Tell us - How excited are you for Toy Story 4?

Big Hero 6: Family Movie Night #BigHero6 #MeetBaymax

We don't always go to the movie theater on a school night, but when we do, we prefer to see a Disney Movie!

Tonight we are excited to be attending a special screening of Big Hero 6. We've heard nothing but good things about the latest animated film from Walt Disney Animation Studios, the team behind “Frozen” and “Wreck-It Ralph,” comes “Big Hero 6,” an original action-comedy-adventure about a robotics prodigy and a plus-sized inflatable robot, who develop a special bond on a quest to solve an unsettling mystery.

Other than this adorable Marshmallow looking guy named Baymax and a boy named Hiro, we really didn't know what this movie was about. We couldn't wait to learn about the characters and the story. It's about relationships and love, friendship and becoming a hero. Sounds like the makings of a new Disney classic to us. Yep - we're in!

Here's what Disney Studios has to say about their newest film:
“Hiro Hamada’s older brother Tadashi has created a cutting-edge robot, Baymax, who’s designed to take care of people,” says director Don Hall (“Winnie the Pooh”). “Baymax’s one programmed desire is ‘How can I help?’ He’s filled with compassion. And Hiro is a teenager who has lost his way— their personalities play off each other in a way that is both funny and heartwarming.”

When a devastating event befalls the city of San Fransokyo and catapults Hiro into the midst of danger, he turns to Baymax and his brilliant fellow nerds: adrenaline junkie GoGo Tomago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. Determined to uncover the mystery, Hiro transforms his friends into a band of high-tech heroes called “Big Hero 6.”

“There’s a mysterious masked villain who is up to no good,” says director Chris Williams (“Bolt”). “Hiro takes it upon himself to find out who this guy is and what he’s plotting to do. Hiro intends to stop him—no matter what. “It’s really a hero’s journey,” Williams continues. “The friendship Hiro forms with Baymax opens his eyes to what it really means to be a hero.”

Producer Roy Conli (“Tangled”) says that family—the kind that you’re born with and the kind you find—is at the core of the movie. “It’s a powerful theme that audiences relate to,” says Conli. “The nuances of the relationships in deeply emotional films like ‘Bambi’ or ‘The Lion King’ are so interesting. There’s something about these stories that can really touch people.
