One of my families favorite holiday movies is Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. Every time he makes a new film we are always intrigued to see it, it was no different with Frankenweenie.
Based on the old "Frankenstein" theme, part dog, part science experiment this movie comes to life when Victor an average boy in New Holland loses his dog and best friend, Sparky. (Warning: my 5 year old daughter cried and made me turn off the movie, because she was too sad after Sparky died to continue watching it. ~ Jess) When the town starts noticing that Sparky has been brought back to life, (by Victor) that's when the real monstrous adventure begins. It's all shot in black and white, which was a different vibe and gives the viewer a different way to experience the emotions and textures. Tim Burton had said in an interview, "If the studio (Disney) had wanted it in color, he wouldn't have done it." Some of our favorite cast members include Martin Short, Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara. The music composed by Burton's go-to guy Danny Elfman. With interesting new characters like Sparky, Victor, Persephone, Mr. Whiskers and Weird Girl it's bound to be a new cult classic.
Frankenweenie is now out on Blu-Ray and DVD if you'd like to add it to your collection. We'd be "Shocked" if you didn't, especially if you are a Tim Burton fan.
